If you are interested in equines, Newton County Fairgrounds is the place to be on the Pre-fair weekend of July 10th and 11th! We have events for horse lovers filling both days! First, there’s no need to travel a great distance to enjoy the great sport of harness racing as many of the finest Hoosier horsemen will bring their pacers and trotters to the track at the Newton County Fairgrounds. On Saturday, July 10th, they'll be off and running, and this year's harness racing program promises to be as exciting at the past years'. The event has been changed to the beginning of the fair to maintain the placement of the Newton County event in the schedule of fair races around the state which has the horses arriving well-conditioned and ready to run. The combination of track conditions and the fitness of the horses could result in some new track records. The number of entries has been steadily increasing along with the prize money, and this year should be no different. The Indiana Sired Fair Circuit Program this year has races at two levels this year, and the program at the Pun’kin Vine fair will include up to 8 races. The total purse for the program of races is estimated at over $24,000. The track improvements have done much to ensure an excellent racing surface and many owners and drivers are anxious to return to these facilities. After enjoying a Newton County welcome at the Hospitality tent, the drivers and owners will get everything ready to offer you some enjoyment -- the thrill of the traditional event of county fair harness racing. The program will not disappoint even the avid fan! Plan to bring the whole family for a day at the races on Saturday, July 10th. Post time is 12:00 Noon. If you arrive early for the Harness races, you can enjoy the competition of the Open Class Horse Show Gaming Classes being held Saturday, the 10th, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Horse and Pony Arena. Superintendent Ann Shale will have everything running smoothly for the enjoyment of the spectators and the competitors. This show has steadily been growing in popularity and in the numbers of entries. There is plenty to watch as these horsemen use their talents to bring out the best in their horses. On Sunday, the 11th, the Open Class Horse Show Performance Classes will be featured. With $1000 added money for the winners, it’s clear why some of the areas best horsemen will be vying for the prizes! So rather than just horsing around at home that weekend, head on out to the Newton County Fairgrounds to see some of the fastest or best trained horses in the state. |
