The Fair Queen Committee has announced plans for their annual pageant on Monday, July11th at 8:00 pm, following the Little Miss and Mister pageant.  This year’s pageant, Welcome to the Jungle:  On a Safari for Miss Newton County will take us into the jungles of the Newton County Fair.

Each contestant will be judged in three categories.  The first will be the interview in which the contestant is awarded points based upon her ability to converse, her personality, and her poise.  The second category, professional wear, is worth points which are given on the basis of posture, poise, and communication skills.  Stage presence and overall impression are the criteria for the evening gown competition which finishes out the points for the pageant.

The pageant is more than just one evening of judging however.  Each contestant must attend several mandatory meetings that began with a tea and continue through the contest.  There is a make-up party, interview practice, modeling practice, and the final rehearsal the day before the contest.  In other words, these young ladies will be well prepared not only to compete, but also to entertain fairgoers with this program.

Shelby Shedrow, last year’s queen, will crown Miss Newton County Fair 2011 who will reign during the activities of this year's fair.  The winner of this title will compete at the Indiana State Fair Queen Contest. The Newton County Fair Association and donations provide a scholarship to the winner as well as numerous other prizes.  Both the committee and the Fair Board are appreciative of the many businesses that support this contest with sponsorships and prizes.

Amanda Wiseman and Kala Miller, Queen Pageant superintendents, stated, "Don’t miss the adventure, be in the grandstand at 8:00 pm on Monday, July 11th and cheer on your favorite contestant.  Maybe you'll pick the winner!”
